Are you feeling groggy when you wake up? Does it take you hours to wake up to full cognitive functionality? You may be surprised to know that skipping the coffee and heading to the gym for aerobic exercises will wake you up and do wonders for your energy level throughout the day.

If you hit the gym early, you will get an endorphin release that will persist and keep you happy and motivated for the day. By contrast, if you are having a cup of coffee and, even worse, adding sugar on top of the caffeine, you will tend to crash at one and four in the afternoon. This will leave you with brain fog, and your system will beg for an energy drink or another shot of coffee. Doing so will, in turn, serve to spike your blood glucose level–leading you to crash yet again. This is not a healthy or productive cycle.

Such a regimen will only offer temporary energy relief while causing you to gain substantial weight. If you wake up and drink coffee, then you may be set till lunchtime. Then, you want more energy, so you grab more coffee or an energy drink. This in turn upsets your metabolism, on top of which your glucose level spikes and drops, resulting in a crash. When you do this to your body, you create cravings for sugar and carbs; and a craving prompted by blood-glucose imbalances tends to be particularly powerful. This will result in eating more junk and, in turn, further cravings. The more you eat such foods, the more you’ll want them; this vicious cycle creates unhealthy dietary restrictions.

When you go to the gym, you have a different experience entirely. The endorphin high that you get from aerobic exercises keeps you energized. Improved heart health carries many benefits, but aerobic exercise is, in particular, a fantastic contributor to your energy level. It boosts your energy by making your blood pump more efficiently through your system. This also improves your sleep, which gives you even more energy and focus as a result of aerobic exercises.
